A Wedding Story

wedding couple by river

A year after their wedding in August 2019, we caught up with Megan & Steve, to hear their  wedding story, and you can read it in their own words below. We couldn’t have imagined how different weddings would look this year, however our location, team & commitment to delivering incredible weddings remains constant.

getting started

“Planning a wedding can become an overwhelming task;  you are bombarded with options on themes, venues, catering, colours when all you really want is the day to feel special. For us, we wanted an informal but traditional wedding, where our guests could simply enjoy themselves in a relaxed environment. Having searched locally for venues, we were feeling  underwhelmed by the options available, that was until we visited The Swan at Streatley. It is hard to fully articulate how stunning a riverside venue it is, but that’s what we were, stunned. The surroundings are breath-taking, from the sweeping willow to the often glass like surface of the river, it looks like a painting.

working together

When we enquired about the wedding package, we were immediately challenged by the fact that the venue was undergoing significant renovation, but that did not put us off. From our first meeting we were shown plans of the building works, visuals of the interior and were met by warm, diligent and honest staff who stayed in regular communication with us.

We felt looked after from the first meeting to the last.

Having been reassured that everything would be ready for our big day, we held our wedding in August of 2019 and were the first couple to have their reception in the new event space. The day was simply perfect. The bridesmaids, bride and family stayed at the hotel the night before and enjoyed one of the vast hotel suites to get ready in. To have our hair and make-up done on the balcony, overlooking the river was a real highlight.

the big day

Following our church service, our guests arrived at the venue and were overwhelmed by the beauty of the location, the finish of the gorgeous interior and the friendly and attentive staff who welcomed them. The canapes were met with great delight, which could only perhaps be challenged by the utterly incredible wedding breakfast. The food was sublime and was perhaps the most commented upon aspect of the day, as everyone helped themselves to seconds of each course.

cake & ceidilh

We decided to use local suppliers that were recommended to us by the staff at The Swan, so that our guests could enjoy short boat trips up and down the river, and could strut their stuff on the dancefloor with the DJ. They even accommodated a short set from relatives who played Irish folk music and enabled a smooth flow through speeches, cake cutting, first dance and evening buffet.

just married

The whole experience was seamless from start to finish and we are so thrilled that we chose the Swan for our wedding. The wedding planners listened carefully to our wishes and provided us with a wedding day that was classy, yet informal, highly organised and yet relaxed. As the drinks flowed into the evening, one or two of the staff were even dragged onto the dancefloor by the bridesmaids and with great humour joined us all to celebrate. We couldn’t have wished for anything better and would ardently recommend the Swan as a wedding venue to anyone looking for a similarly amazing day.”

Hotel guests can order wine, beer and bar snacks to collect and enjoy in their room. Whether you are planning brunch, lunch or dinner, we suggest going online to book your table at Coppa.

Cafe open to all

The hotel café is open to everyone, 7 days a week from 8am-6pm. As well as tea, coffee & alcoholic drinks, you can also order Coppa Club takeaway to eat in the bar or garden during these hours.
